چکیده

Non-terrestrial networks, including Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), High Altitude Platform Station (HAPS) nodes and Low Earth Orbiting (LEO) satellites, are expected to have a pivotal role in sixth-generation wireless networks. With inherent features such as flexible placement, wide footprints, preferred channel conditions, they can tackle several challenges faced by current terrestrial However, their successful widespread adoption relies on energy-efficient on-board communication systems. In this context, the integration of Reconfigurable Smart Surfaces (RSS) into aerial platforms is envisioned key enabler cost-effective platform deployments. RSS consist low-cost reflectors capable smartly directing signals nearly passive way. paper, we investigate link budget RSS-assisted communications for two reflection paradigms discussed literature, namely “specular” “scattering” paradigms. Specifically, analyze characteristics RSS-equipped compare performance with that networks using standardized models. addition, derive optimal placements both Our results provide important insights design communications. For instance, given HAPS has large area RSS, it provides superior most studied scenarios. contrast, limited UAVs propagation loss LEO satellite make them unfavorable candidates supporting users. Finally, location an may depend platform’s altitude, coverage footprint, type environment

Reconfigurable Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have been developing dramatically due to wars and miniaturisation of technology, which has made the UAV industry a very lucrative business. Research organisations have been funded by various research committees or military groups to push UAV developments at a very fast pace. Although these UAVs are high in capability, they are limited to a single use application ...

Optical Wireless Link Budget Analysis for Optical Wireless Communication Networks

Power link budgets are prepared for wireless optical communication systems to illustrate the optical losses that happens during transmission. This paper has presented optical wireless links which offer ultra multi gigabit per second data rates and low system complexity. For ground space and or terrestrial communication systems, these links suffer from atmospheric loss mainly due to fog, and sci...

Co-Design Architecture for Reconfigurable Assembly Platforms

This paper proposes a new architecture for distributed assembly platforms that is well suited to hardwaresoftware codesign. The key qualitative attribute is the reusability of her atomic architectural units called “assembly actors”(software/hardware devices) due the correlation between actors’ goals and primitive assembly operations. We describe the main components of the codesign architecture ...

Offline HW/SW Authentication for Reconfigurable Platforms

Many Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) based systems utilize third-party intellectual property (IP) in their development. When they are deployed in non-networked environments, the question raises how this IP can be protected against non-authorized use. We describe an offline authentication scheme for IP modules. The scheme implements mutual authentication of the IP modules and the hardware p...
